| I started playing around with video in the early 90’s. This was really my first passion.
I took a video production degree at Columbia Academy here in Vancouver, which led to a job with Forefront Productions who were producing Madison (basically the Canadian version of 90210) where I was the assistant to the producer and I produced their opening credits for the 94 season. This was about the same time as I discovered rave parties and I found that my video skills had some fun relevance in that world…. So, I bought myself 2 Sharp XG-H400U video projectors and set about being “the visual guy”. At this time in Vancouver there was pretty much just urban visuals and Dr B doing visuals in the party scene, so “breaking in” wasn’t very hard. I did lots of gig’s using VCR’s and Pre-edited tapes that I made with just your basic linear “record” editing. Later, as I got more gear, I started experimenting with video loops run off my laptop… which eventually led to midivid. MidiVid is a cool program that lets you assign video loops and bitmaps to keys on a midi keyboard… allowing you to “play” visuals. Using this as the base, I mix content from DVD’s live camera feeds and visual loops triggered by MidiVid through a video mixer to create the “main” image. In addition to that, I use 16MM film and Slides, along with creatively shaped and located screens of various thickness to create a moving environment that comes alive with color and light. Some Visual Artist credits of note include: - Producing the opening credits to MADISON – A CanWest Global National TV show - Visual Environment for ENTER / EXIT by hard rubber orchestra - the 2005 Alcan Performance Grant award winner. - Visual Environments for the following parties and raves (to name a few): Victory Project, Xeno, Full On, Sweet, Exert, Easy Access, Summer Love, Shambahla… If you’re looking for some visuals for your next show… don’t hesitate to contact me. |
