For close to 10 years, I heard the call of the music. It would be a decade of running doors, visuals, coat checks, setting up sound… anything to be closer to the music. Retrospectively I don’t know why it took me so long to start playing wax. The fist time I felt the warp of the bass as I physically manipulated the beat of the music, it was like coming home, underwater and in slow motion. Time stood still for about 6 months as I completely lost myself in learning the physical properties of the 1200 series direct drive turntable from our friends at Technics. My first love has always been House music… |
| Deep, dark, sexy, horny, bouncy house music…. Ahhhhhhhh….
However, the electronic ocean is deep and quickly I started to want more than those familiar, simple 4/4 rhythms, I dabbled in big beat, garage, hip-hop, breaks, even a little D&B… the until the next phase of my DJ development. The plethora of music available via the internet was a deep lure, in the last 10 years the jump from analogue to digital has completely changed the landscape of music distribution (as we all know). The variety that was available for download has meant that I couldn’t remain exclusively a house DJ anymore, there were too many good tunes that just didn’t fit into one category. But how do I transfer those aquired turntable skills to digital music? |

Now, I can DJ anything… house/pop/eighties/punk/disco/bigband/ freekin’ opera if that’s what turns my crank at the moment…anything you can think of I can probably find and spin on two turntables in under 10 minutes, including my own creations…. Which led to the next phase…

| Mashups, Remix’s, bastard pop... If you haven’t heard of it yet you will… since the summer of 2001 I’ve watched as this marginal format grew in popularity both on the listener side and on the creation side… until now… wired is naming danger mouse for a RAVE award for his “Grey Album” and GHP was talking about licensing Ray Of Gob to Madonna’s own Maverick label for release on a compilation album. This is the most exciting musical format I’ve encountered yet. That sounds pretty extreme, but it’s the truth, I haven’t had this much of a thirst for a musical genre ever, and that’s the best part, it’s not a genre.. it’s cross genre, spans age groups, sounds new and fresh, yet tried and true… I am a mash up mad man now… check out my mashup mix in the downloads section and if you wantto book me for your next gig? By all means, I’d love to come and add a mashup flavor to your gig. |
